Mini releases details of electric concept

The Mini Electric Concept brings the United Kingdom marque's "iconic design and customary go-kart feeling" into the electric mobility age, Mini said in a statement on Wednesday. It does have rear light assemblies that form one half of the Union Jack each.

However, given recent advances in EV tech - the Chevrolet Bolt can do 285 km on a charge, for example - we expect MINI's first EV will be capable of covering more than 300 km at a go.

While the Mini E that you can buy in two years time will be toned down from this, the concept gives a glimpse of what's to come. It will, says the firm, be "great fun while also being completely suitable for everyday use". Like the front, there's a yellow accent strip providing contrast to the rear and the lack of exhaust pipes reinforces its all-electric powertrain.

Mini has confirmed it will reveal an all-electric three-door concept at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, which will provide a glimpse into its first production EV that's due in 2019. "MINI and electrification make a ideal match", remarks Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

No other finer detail is known, other than the fact that it will have "a characteristic go-kart feel and powerful electric motor".

Gomez is the most-followed person on Instagram with over 125 million followers, so you can bet people did notice those NSFW snaps. At the time of this article's publication, Salena's Instagram account had been resurrected without the Bieber images.

The technical specifications of the MINI electric auto is not revealed at the moment as it is too early to talk about it before the 2019 reveal. There's the silver and yellow color scheme, passed down from the Mini E (an early experiment that formed the bedrock of the BMW i3).

But there was actually a previous all-electric Mini-the Mini E of 2009.

The wheels get a retro design with four-spoke alloys made using 3D printing technology.

We doubt Mini will make the same mistake a decade later.

Despite replacing petrol and diesel engines with electric motors, BMW's emphasis with the Mini Electric Concept is on the Mini brand's dynamic driving style, something electric motors and their high performance at low speeds can offer.
