Bryant, an 18-time All-Star who won five National Basketball Association titles with the Lakers before retiring after the 2015-16 season, wore both number 8 and number 24 during his 20 seasons with the team.

According to TMZ, the retired Los Angeles Laker's jersey will hang from the rafters ahead of the team's December 18 game against the Golden State Warriors.

Bryant wore No. 8 from 1996 to 2006, when he switched to No. 24 for the remainder of a 20-year career spent entirely with the Lakers.

While it originally wasn't clear which of Bryant's two iconic numbers, 8 and 24, the Lakers would hang in the rafters, Shelburne later added that it would, in fact, be both numbers.

During his career, the Black Mamba won the NBA title five times and captured two NBA Finals MVPs, as well as the NBA regular season MVP in the 2007-08 season. The Lakers are in a rebuild, as they move away from the Bryant era, one of the greatest stretches in franchise history.

Other Lakers legends to have their jerseys retired include Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Jerry West, Jamaal Wilkes and James Worthy.

It means a Hall of Fame case could be made for Bryant in either jersey. Bryant also challenged Washington Wizards point guard, John Wall, to make the NBA First Team All-Defense.

Since his retirement, Bryant has become an unofficial adviser to Buss and the Lakers. "It alone daily inspires all of us to strive for greatness".
