Special counsel Robert Mueller has filed the first charges in his investigation into possible Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

A CNN correspondent said on "Anderson Cooper 360" on Friday evening that she understood that the individuals who have been charged have likely not been notified yet, and that they would most likely be notified through their attorneys on Sunday or Monday. It is unknown who has been charged or what the charges are. Targets of his investigation include former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, among others.

A spokesman for Mueller's office did not immediately return Bustle's request for comment.

After Comey's ouster, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to lead the investigation.

Russia has repeatedly denied United States intelligence agencies' conclusions that Moscow meddled in the election and Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and Russian officials.

Pats LB Dont'a Hightower out for season with torn pec
Hightower was listed as a linebacker, but also played play on the defensive line, serving as a pass rusher. But while the Patriots have a plan, that doesn't mean Hightower's absence won't be felt.

Sources familiar with Mr Mueller's investigation said he has examined links between aides of Mr Trump and foreign governments, as well as possible money laundering, tax evasion and other financial crimes.

Congressional investigations into alleged Russian involvement in the presidential election are also underway.

But that did not stop social media from hypothesizing on who charges could be coming against.

The allegation led to speculation that president might have obstructed justice by attempting to influence the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe. The grand jury then reportedly issued subpoenas about a 2016 meeting between Trump Jr., Kushner, Manafort, and a Russian lawyer.
