Sony has launched two "Made in India" smartphones under the new Xperia R series in India.
The Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus smartphones from Sony are not going to sell like hotcakes.
The Xperia R1 Plus offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the R1 model offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

As for the optics, both the devices feature 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, Exmor Sony sensor, 8x digital zoom and LED flash. Sony Xperia R1 Plus is priced at Rs 14,990 while Xperia R1 costs Rs 12,990. But with the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus, Sony is looking to take on the likes of Nokia and Motorola. For camera, the devices have a 13MP auto focus rear camera and an 8MP front facing shooter. The Xperia XZ1 is notably among the first batch of phones to ship with Google's latest and greatest Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box. Talking about its front camera, the Xperia R1 includes an 8-megapixel camera with 76-degree wide-angle lens for capturing selfies and making video calls. Both the phones will be available for buying from Sony Center and major mobile stores across India and also online via Amazon India and Flipkart. On the connectivity front, both of them supports, 4G VoLTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C, WiFi and dual-SIM support.
It's backed by a 2600 mAh battery and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. This is a dual SIM smartphone, and there's a dedicated slot for microSD card. Both of them measures 146 x 73.2 x 8.89 mm and weighs 154 grams.
The Xperia R1 Plus and R1 come loaded with Uplink Data Compression (UDC) to improve data transmission which helps to download web pages up to 50 percent faster, the company claims.
