One person is said to be missing, according to an FDNY chief, after a massive fire broke out Friday at a Hamilton Heights building - a six-alarm fire that was not under control until Saturday morning.

A massive fire has broken out at an apartment building in NY.

The building's top floor was engulfed in flames, and thick smoke billowed from the building. "There were plenty of people in the building", Taverez said. The wind gusts over 20 miles an hour quickly fueled the fire as it chewed through the room and into the other sixth floor apartments. "It was a wind driven fire that rapidly pushed the fire into the top floor, into the cockloft area which is the space between the top floor ceiling and the underside of the roof".

Resident Mannaesh Carter was at a store downstairs in the building when he smelled smoke. "I think we don't even have a super for the last six months", one resident said. "We took the children and left and are monitoring the situation, and anxious about the wind and flames jumping from building to building".
