"We played him three versions of Girls" Generation's "Gee' [one of the popular K-pop song that the South Korean soldiers stationed at the border play on loudspeakers] the original version, the rock version and the indie band version".

It shows the soldier racing toward the border in a jeep, before he runs into a ditch just a feet few away from the white demarcation line officially separating the two Koreas.

The video does not show the moment when the defector was hit but he is seen lying motionless in a pile of dead leaves next to a concrete wall in one of the later edited clips in the video. It was the first North Korea defection over the border in about a decade.

It unfolded November 13 in the Joint Security Area, which is overseen by both the American-led U.N. Command and North Korea and lies inside the 4-kilometer (2 1/2-mile) -wide Demilitarized Zone that has been the de facto border between the Koreas since the war.

It was later determined that North Korean forces fired 40 rounds, and doctors said the defector was shot five to six times. He was shot by North Korean border guards while he was escaping to South Korean side last week. He was flown by a U.S. military helicopter to a hospital in Suwon, south of Seoul.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson referred to the move as part of the "peaceful pressure" campaign, noting it was in line with Mr Trump's "maximum pressure" programme to get countries like Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, and South Sudan to cut off Pyongyang financially as well.

Soldiers on the South side did not return fire. A U.N. Command statement said a meeting had been requested with the North's military to discuss the violations.

"He is fine", lead surgeon Lee Cook-Jong said at a press conference in Suwon.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency said Wednesday that the country has no connection to terrorism and "doesn't care whether or not the United States places the hat of terrorism on our heads".

UN Command spokesman Colonel Chad Carroll said one of the North Korean border guards also physically crossed the border "for a few seconds" in pursuit of the defecting soldier.
