Rose was sacked by CBS on Tuesday and PBS canceled his long-running talk show in the wake of a Washington Post report detailing his unwanted sexual advances and misconduct involving eight women. "It was very hard and very painful for me this morning, it really was", she said. "I just feel numb.' We're all sort of reeling about what's happened".

King was booked weeks earlier to appear on Colbert's show Tuesday night to promote Oprah's Favorite Things for the holidays, but the conversation started with King saying she nearly canceled the interview. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate.

King says the allegations against Rose seemingly came out of nowhere. "It's still very painful, it's still very hurtful ... but when you think about the anguish of those women-despite the friendship-you still have to report the news".

Colbert also addressed the accusations in his opening monologue before calling King to sit by his desk, including the allegation that Rose had a penchant for offering unwanted massages-a gesture known in the workplace as "the crusty paw".

King applauded the women for speaking out, and said she hoped their bravery would produce tangible policy change.

Colbert asked if she thought the recent string of sexual assault, harassment and misconduct allegations would eventually fade away. "I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken", he said in his statement. King responded, "I think things are changing and that is a good thing". "We need to be such a place".
