Massage Envy facing sexual assault allegations from more than 180 women

The investigative report from Buzzfeed News highlights how the nation's largest massage spa chain trains the massage therapists and how the company is handling the disturbing allegations.

Danielle Dick, a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, shared her story this morning on the ABC's "Good Morning America" and NBC's "Today" show about a sexual assault at a Massage Envy Spa in Henrico County.

Susan Ingram was in the middle of a massage at Massage Envy's West Chester location in May 2015 when her massage therapist, James Deiter, sexually assaulted her with his fingers.

According to a report from BuzzFeed News, the women say therapists at the popular chain groped them and committed other sexual acts.

"Each of these incidents is heartbreaking for us and for the franchisees that operate Massage Envy locations, and we will never stop looking for ways to help our franchisees provide a safe environment at Massage Envy franchise locations".

According to the company, their therapists have done approximately 125 million massages in the past 15 years. The manager of the franchise, Nicole, answered the phone and declined to interrupt Deiter's ongoing massage of a different client. "She said she could not do that, and she invited me in to talk about my services".

Her business offers Swedish, deep tissue, and bamboo massage, as well as aromatherapy. For Road Runner, he says that's huge.

Even if a client calls to report a rape, Massage Envy is not required to contact law enforcement.

"Massage Envy told BuzzFeed News that it would not be "appropriate to respond point-by-point" to questions "because of pending litigation" and the confidential documents involved".

There are now five Massage Envy locations in Colorado.

The BuzzFeed report recalled similar cases in other states in which women accused their Massage Envy therapists of assault with digital and oral penetration, among other things. He admitted to assaulting not just Ingram but other Massage Envy clients as well.

The latest in a recent string of sexual assault allegations is not against a person, but an entire business.

As more information comes in about the lawsuits, Independent Journal Review will keep you posted. After the assault she left the facility, and called the Massage Envy asking for a manager to step in.
