Abbe Lowell, the attorney for President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior White House adviser, said in an interview with CNN that the committee has "jumped the gun" with a letter to Kushner stating that they had not been provided documents about WikiLeaks, a "Russian backdoor overture and dinner invite", and communications with Sergei Millian, the president of the US-based Russian American Chamber of Commerce, who The Washington Post reported could be a source in the Trump-Russia dossier. The measure criticized Israel for its policies of building on West Bank land it conquered in the 1967 war that the Palestinians claim for eventual statehood.

Former President Barack Obama had caused controversy when he chose to abstain from the vote, rather than veto the bill in December.

The paper claimed that several sources involved in the investigation said that Kushner had spoken with senior Israeli officials who sought to thwart a UN Security Council's resolution which condemned Israel's occupying activities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank as illegal under global law.

Mueller's team is reportedly also investigating Kushner's role in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Two Republicans close to Trump said the president has been frustrated with Kushner's advice to back Luther Strange and fire former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

A personal friend of Kushner who requested anonymity alleged that the special adviser was alarmed by the indictments and asked him "Do you think they'll get the president?" The Washington Post reported that Kushner and M.B.S., as the prince is known, stayed up till almost 4 a.m. "planning strategy", which left Kelly to deal with the impression that the administration had advance knowledge of the purge and even helped orchestrate it, sources told me.

Kushner is a main focus of Mueller's probe into a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting that was attended by a Kremlin-connected lawyer who had promised "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.
