LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Athletics registered its highest Graduation Success Rate in school history during the 2016-17 academic year according to data released Wednesday by the NCAA. The GSR subtracts student-athletes who depart for allowable exclusions (e.g. official church mission), as well as those who transfer but would have been academically eligible to compete had they returned to the institution.

Georgia Tech's 88-percent GSR is its highest since the NCAA began using the metric in 2005, topping last year's record of 87 percent. For the four-class average (classes entering Ohio State between 2007-10), the GSR for Buckeye student-athletes was 86 percent.

"In the past decade, we have worked purposefully to provide additional support and encouragement to assist more than 460 Razorback student-athletes annually in achieving academics and athletics success while advancing toward graduation". In the fall of 2013, as UConn was on its way to winning its most recent championship, the program's graduation rate hit a low of 8 percent. A GSR of 90 percent is four percentage points higher than the average of all other Division I programs.

Each of Georgia Tech's five programs that now own 100-percent GSRs have done so for multiple years in a row.

Yahoo's Mayer points to Russians in data-breach apology
Yahoo!'s former CEO Marissa Mayer testified before congress Wednesday about a security breach that happened in August 2013. Yahoo required users to change passwords and took new steps to make data more secure, Mayer said.

The NCAA also released federal graduation rates of all students. "Our goal is to always give our student-athletes the tools to thrive on the playing field as well as the classroom". GSR rates that were equal to or higher than the national average for each sport were also made by the same eight programs.

Loyola had flawless GPRs for men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country and track and field, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball. Under the GSR calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing.

The Marsha Sharp Center for Student Athletes has spaces for private study, computer labs, supplemental-instruction classrooms and a private conferencing area for tutoring and mentoring appointments for the student athletes at Tech, according to the release. Incoming transfer students, from junior college or four-year schools, who graduate at United Kingdom are not counted as graduates.
