Cleveland Browns hire John Dorsey as their new general manager

The Cleveland Browns are full steam ahead... to the 2018 NFL Draft.

There's no doubt about the fact that John Dorsey was perhaps the most qualified candidate out there for the Cleveland Browns' general manager position.

While with Kansas City in 2013, Dorsey traded for quarterback Alex Smith, who has developed into a Pro Bowler.

Prior to being hired by the Chiefs, he spent the majority of his professional career in various executive roles with the Green Bay Packers.

This is an outstanding hire for the Browns.

"We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi's commitment and leadership to our organization but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns", Jimmy Haslam said in a statement.

The idea is that Jackson and Brown had major issues in evaluating quarterback talent. It has become commonplace to see a firing of Browns personnel after disappointing seasons dating back to their return in 1999.

"They just felt, 'Hey, you didn't draft Carson Wentz".

Jackson wanted the Browns to trade for his former backup quarterback when he was the offensive coordinator for the rival Cincinnati Bengals in A.J. McCarron before the 2017 National Football League trade deadline.

Frustrations boiled over and now Brown is out of a job.

The Dorsey era will begin immediately in the middle of the 2017 season.

Thursday night the Browns made it official, completing one of the shortest general manager searches in history.

Jackson being safe at this time is something of a surprise given the context of the winless campaign but, in the end, it appears that Cleveland's leadership decided it was the roster, not the coaching, that is dooming the Browns at this point. It's been over 25 years since Bernie Kosar got benched.
