House Intelligence committee questions Donald Trump Jr. on Russian Federation contacts

The agreement for Goldstone to appear before the congressional Russia panels is the latest sign that the music publicist is ready to cooperate with the investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections.

But as Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told Rachel Maddow on Wednesday night, if Congress tolerates witnesses like Trump Jr. making up new standards for shielding conversations, it will be much harder for investigators to learn the truth about what happened in 2016, even while making it obvious that those involved have something to hide.

Rob Goldstone, the British music publicist who set up a meeting in June 2016 between Donald Trump Jr. and a Kremlin-linked lawyer, sent emails later in the summer to another Russian who attended the meeting, and one of President Donald Trump's aides, CNN reported on Thursday.

"In my view, there is no attorney-client privilege that protects a discussion between father and son", Schiff said.

Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller is also conducting a broad investigation of the matter. He acknowledged having discussed the June 9 meeting and the emails that went into establishing that meeting after those emails became public.

His remarks come after Trump Jr. appeared voluntarily before the House Intelligence Committee for a grueling closed-door interview that lasted eight hours while the panel peppered the president's eldest son with questions about his Russian contacts.

The conversations that Trump Jr. may have had with his father after the June 2016 meeting are of interest to investigators primarily due to the fact that the younger Trump went into this meeting on the presumption that the Russian lawyer he would be meeting with had connections to the Russian government and that the goal of the meeting was to discuss potentially damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

United States approves bitcoin futures but Brits plan regulatory crackdown
One bitcoin was worth just a fraction of a penny when it started trading in 2010, and by the start of this year was worth $1,000. CBOE said Monday that trading will open at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, with Dec. 11 as the first full day of trading.

Trump Jr. had gone into the meeting expecting to receive information on Hillary Clinton that would contribute to his father's election victory.

The call for the committee to subpoena Trump Jr. comes several weeks after he released correspondence between himself and WikiLeaks during the 2016 election campaign.

In one email, Goldstone suggests to Scavino that Trump create a profile on Russia's VK social network, and asserts that "Don and [then-campaign chairman] Paul [Manafort]" approved of the idea.

In September, Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he, Goldstone and Agalarov "never discussed the meeting again". Schiff says he doesn't believe attorney-client privilege protected the conversation.

"A lot of questions were asked and answered, and from my perspective all of our questions were answered", Conaway said after the interview. If the Court decides on the other hand that either all or part of the conversation was not privileged, then Trump Jr, would have to disclose the conversation or be held in contempt for failure to do so.
