Authorities believe they have found the body of Mariah Woods, a 3-year-old eastern North Carolina girl missing for more than five days, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Saturday.

The boyfriend of Mariah Woods' mother appeared before a judge for the first time Monday morning in connection with the 3-year-old girl's death.

Earl Kimrey is being held on $1 million bond and others in the community say they are focused on grieving for Mariah and making sure justice is served.

Kimrey was charged with concealing a death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property.

While officials continue to avoid questions about whether they believe a crime has been committed in the girl's disappearance, the landfill search is one of several techniques authorities have used that suggest they believe Woods could be dead. "Just bring her home, please, safe and sound".

As Kimrey sits in jail, the community is still coping with the loss of Mariah Woods. I called the aunt yesterday and they were in tears.

Another little girl showed up with her family to place a tiara on the sign, because "Mariah looked like a princess" in the pictures shared with the news.

Police have not yet said how Mariah died. "[.] Just to be able to touch her and hold her and not let her go again", she said.

Authorities said further charges are possible.

Mariah's parents are divorced, and her father, Alex Woods, said that while his daughter had been living with her mother, his week had been "like hell, like a nightmare".

The news was announced that a Fayetteville dive team made the discovery Saturday evening in Shelter Creek along Shaw Highway in Pender County. "We will not discuss any details related to the homicide investigation".
