Salvation Army, Meadville still needs your help

The Salvation Army is distancing itself from a man the social agency says is attempting to fleece people out of cash in a door-to-door scam.

The Red Kettles are still out and will be until December 23, but the campaign runs until the first or second week of January.

The incident occurred December 5 around 1 p.m.at the Acme on Mantua Avenue in Woodbury.

The Tyler Salvation Army program has grown so large that volunteers have come from as far as Florida to help out.

Authorities do not know how much money was taken.

There are 15 kettle locations in Schuylkill County and some of them do not have bell ringers due to a shortage of volunteers.

On Saturday, December 16, Walmart Canada will match donations made by individuals to Salvation Army Christmas kettles located in its stores nationwide up to a maximum of $100,000.

I beamed my best smile and rang the bell as loudly as I could in my attempt to have someone-anyone-drop something in the bucket.

During one particular period, three people donated in quick succession and a few commented that giving would be easier if red kettles accepted credit cards or Apple Pay. Major Charles Fowler, Washoe County Salvation Army Reno corps coordinator, said in a news release.

Jones hopes her charitable gift motivates other people to do the same when they see the red kettles and hear the sound of Salvation Army bells.

"Be creative, play an instrument, play songs, sing songs dress up your pet or your kids", she said. Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, needy families can pick up a hamper - which includes all the ingredients for a traditional Christmas dinner, including turkey, carrots and potatoes - from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. on both days.

Higgins said he also takes Abner to hospitals to help cheer up patients with a little animal therapy.
