The notebooks are powered by an 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor, up to 16GB DDR4 RAM, up to 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD, and Intel HD graphics. All new notebooks are built of magnesium aluminum alloy, dubbed as "Metal12".

The 15-inch model can be specced with Nvidia's 2GB GeForce MX150 GPU to give the laptop a hike in pixel pushing performance. The battery also supports fast charging and the Notebook 9 (2018) measures 15.4mm, which makes it one of the thinnest and lightest notebooks in its segment.

The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen is flexible enough to be used as a tablet or for drawing. As for the Notebook 9 S Pen, the device has the IR and facial scanning technology. Removing the stylus activates Air Command menu through which users can quickly access Autodesk Sketchook, Samsung Notes and S Pen shortcuts. The South Korean major introduced a brand new Notebook 9 Pen, along with the 2018 edition of the Notebook 9.

The 2018 Samsung Notebook 9 laptops will be unveiled at the Consumers Electronics Show (CES) 2018 on January 9th at Las Vegas. Lenovo is also expected to announce its Windows on ARM laptop at CES next month, so the competition amongst laptop makers will hopefully get heated this year.

Samsung and LG are both focusing on the battery life this year, just a week after the launch of the first two Windows on ARM devices from HP and Acer that claim to offer up to 20 hours of battery life. One USB-C port, one USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, a microSD reader and an audio jack round out the hardline connections. On the connectivity front, the 13-inch models support USB-C x 1, USB 3.0 X 2, HDMI X1, uSD, HP/Mic and DC-in, while the 15-inch models support Thunderbolt 3 x 1 (or USB type C), USB 3.0 x 2, USB 2.0 x 1, HDMI x 1, uSD x 1, HP/Mic x 1, DC-in. That makes them, at the heaviest, only slightly heavier than the Notebook 9 Pen, though you don't get the added convenience of that 360-degree display and integrated battery-free stylus.
