DeWanda Wise is on her way to the Marvel Universe. Marvel Studios is gearing up for the start of production on their first female led film.

The news of Wise's role comes after Netflix announced a second season of Spike Lee's 2017 reboot series of his film "She's Gotta Have It", so it looks like we'll be seeing more of the Maryland actress in the near future.

While Rambeau was a favorite as Captain Marvel, most fans know her as the leader for the hilarious 12-issue-epic known as Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E.

The film will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing with Kevin Feige producing.

Jon Gruden confirms interest in Raiders job: 'I hope I'm a candidate'
Under the league's Rooney Rule, the Raiders also must interview at least one minority candidate for their head coaching job. The Raiders won just 13 games in the three seasons before he arrived.

With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we've ever put in a movie. She is now fresh off a role in She's Gotta Have It on Netflix, but no word on who she is playing is available at this time. The heroine was given extra-dimensional powers when she tried to keep a weapon from being created, and Monica became a hero who operated under the name Captain Marvel. With a potentially sizable role, it may be possible she is playing Carol's best friend and fellow superhero Monica Rambeau.

At the time, Carol was using Ms. Marvel as her name, before switching to other code names like Warbird and Binary, before settling for Ms. Marvel and then Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is set to open in theaters March 2019. Deadline says the star will co-star opposite of Larson along with Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Ben Mendelsohn.
