The Patriots are "optimistic" that Gronkowski will play in next week's Super Bowl matchup, but he hasn't been cleared of the concussion protocol yet.

The only other player listed as "out" on the Friday's injury report - during which the National Football League compelled teams to issue declarations for a hypothetical game on Sunday - was rookie defensive end Deatrich Wise, who's also been dealing with a concussion.

Jaguars safety Barry Church was slapped with a hefty fine for the hit that left Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski with a concussion.

Ronald Gasser Convicted of Manslaughter in Fatal Shooting of Joe McKnight
McKnight emerged as a star in his three seasons with USC, rushing for 1,014 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior in 2009. Defense attorneys said Gasser fired in self-defense when McKnight approached his vehicle after the confrontation.

Gronkowski (concussion) remained sidelined at practice Friday. "So it obviously hurts when he's not out there for a lot of reasons, but he's doing the best he can do and we're all hopeful". "It's just a great attribute of his; it always has been since he got here". Tom Brady and Devin McCourty have been scratched from the injury report. The quarterback missed parts of practices leading to the AFC title game but was able to play.

Since the start of last season, New England is 12-1 without Gronk.

Rob Gronkowski and Deatrich Wise Jr., both recovering from concussions, returned to practice for the Patriots on Saturday. "It was a tough call, but you have to go with what they call".
