A Code Red alert has been issued by the sheriff's department, warning citizens to stay indoors as the shooter is believed to still be at large. In all, five deputies were shot.

Douglas County Sheriff Joe Pelle's son, Jeff, was among those who were injured in the incident.

One deputy was confirmed dead and the six others were taken to hospitals, the sheriff's office said.

An emergency call came in just after 6:30 a.m. about a domestic violence incident at Copper Canyon Apartments.
