Originally announced in 1999 and launched in 2001, the XFL consisted of eight teams and was presented as a more extreme alternative to the National Football League, with nicknames on the backs of jerseys and rules meant to encourage violence.
McMahon said they are nowhere near ready to choose which cities will have teams but he said fans can expect eight teams with 40-man rosters to play a 10-game schedule beginning in late January or early February.
McMahon's announcement of the XFL comes several weeks after rumors that he would again be taking interest in professional football.
Vince said the XFL documentary play no role in the decision to bring back the league.
"I wanted to do this since the day we stopped the other one", McMahon told ESPN.
There will be no cheerleaders, McMahon said Players with criminal records will not be welcome.
During the news conference Thursday, McMahon said "it would be appropriate" for players to stand during the national anthem. He said he didn't know if Trump would support the league but said that the league will have nothing to do with politics or social issues.
Stripe to end support for online bitcoin transactions
Stripe is also watching OmiseGO , Ethereum and Stellar , the latter of which it provided US$3 million in seed funding to in 2014. Online payment-processing company Stripe has announced in a blog post that it will end Bitcoin support by April 23rd.
Based on the immediate reactions, Vince McMahon's new, unnamed football league (the XFL? the XFL 2?) will have an audience from the get-go. The XFL is a revival of the failed 2001 football league of the same name started by McHahon and NBC. "We want good football, that's what we'll deliver". "That's boring. I think fans want it shot in a totally different way, and I think there's an immersive opportunity that's more interactive to the game".
"Every city is on our radar", said McMahon.
McMahon took a serious tone throughout the broadcast, and was relatively light on details on the specifics of the league, but did lay out a few broad concepts the league would be built around. The first player to get a hold of the ball would determine possession.
The XFL launched in 2001 and eventually didn't make it past the first year.
"I can say, 'Here are the rules, and as long as you are playing football in the stadium for us, you follow these rules'". "We have a lot of question for you, and we are going to listen".
Lastly, McMahon intends to still do his daily WWE operations so there will be no changes to the current professional wrestling product thus far. Vince McMahon is not going to make the same mistake twice.
Of course the XFL has a cult status in the annals of popular culture, with ESPN making a 30 for 30 about the league past year and the film being widely well receive McMahon was asked did the positive reaction play a part in his decision to bring the XFL back.
