Congressional Black Caucus: Trump Should Be Impeached for 'Legitimizing Bigotry'

"And something I'm very proud of, African-American unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever recorded", Trump said as the crowd packed into the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday night went wild.

Harris continued, "The priorities of the previous administration that we saw a five-point drop in unemployment among the black population of the United States, and that trend has continued - but frankly, actually, a year ago by only one percent".

The Caucus leaders wore traditional African kente cloth and black clothing to protest Trump' "shithole comments" about Africa and Haiti. A New York Times fact-check found, "The 6.8 percent unemployment rate for black Americans in December is indeed the lowest since 1972, according to the latest monthly data that is available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics".

While some praised Trump for staying on message and striking a more presidential tone, others pointed out that his tone contradicted his actions.

During his State of the Union address Tuesday President Donald Trump repeated a familiar boast that unemployment among black Americans is down under his administration.

"That rate is just a continuation of a longer-term trend that the black unemployment rate has been consistently declining since 2011", Wilson said, adding that when the pool of available workers shrinks, people on society's margins have more opportunities to find employment. What the jump does suggest, however, is that neither Trump nor his policies have anything to do with the black unemployment rate being at a record low.

This is not a sanctions list and no restrictions are slapped on those mentioned in the document, the Treasury Department said. That ambiguity has made it impossible for the public to know exactly what is and isn't permissible.

Trump said, "After years of wage stagnation, we are finally seeing rising wages". Trump said in another tweet on January 8, also referring to Hispanics, among whom unemployment had fallen. "I frankly believe there's black unemployment, and black unemployment among young African-American men, who need more than praise about unemployment". It doesn't. That's missing the whole point.

The levels of unemployment among black or African-Americans during Trump's first year in office were last seen in 2000.

"You replace "immigrant" with 'Black person, ' and you're talking 1950s rhetoric", Perry said. In 2017, the same group wore white to Trump's first joint address to Congress. Trump controversially renewed his support for Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore's election campaign even after several women accused Moore of sexual misconduct.

After the speech, President Trump was congratulated by Republicans on the floor of the House. To kickoff Black History Month last February, he clumsily referenced 19th-century abolitionist Frederick Douglass as if he were still alive.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders echoed the president's words on Wednesday when she called out Democrats, and Pelosi specifically, for not looking enthusiastic enough during the speech.
