Speaking after inaugurating "Advantage Assam - Global Investors Summit, 2018" here, Mr Modi said the North East could turn out to be a new growth centre of Indian economy and the country's growth story will pick up more speed when people living in this region will see fast development in a balanced manner.

Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the initiative taken by the Sonowal government in Assam and disclosed that the Assam Minister for Industries has suggested the holding of a follow-up meeting with representatives from all the States at the union capital, New Delhi, soon after the conclusion of the two-day Guwahati Summit. Those present at the event included Bhutanese PM Tshering Tobgay, several Union ministers, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, chief ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, ambassadors and high commissioners of 16 countries, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekharan besides other.
Officials said that over 250 MOUs worth Rs 60,000 crore are expected to be signed on the first day of the summit on Saturday.
Over 2,000 domestic and worldwide industry leaders and corporate figures, including Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Dilip Sanghvi, Anand Burman and Harshavardhan Neotia, are participating in the summit.
On Friday, the government of Assam signed an MoU with the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited to build a 65-storied twin trade tower in Guwahati with an expenditure of rupees 1,095 crore. "This will benefit people of North East, especially the farmers of this region", Modi added.
