India supports sovereign and independent Palestine

In a special recognition of the PM Modi's contribution to relations between India and Palestine, President Abbas conferred the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine on him after the conclusion of the bilateral meeting.

During the joint press statement in Palestine, Prime Minister Modi said he has assured Palestinian President that India is bound to bound by a promise to take care of Palestinian people's interests.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged his country's support to the Palestinian people during a visit to Ramallah on Saturday. In December, India backed a United Nations resolution that opposed the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Even as Modi dramatically tightens India's ties with Israel, New Delhi has continued its longstanding support of the Palestinians in global forums. The PM is also scheduled to visit a 250-year-old Shiva temple in Muscat.

"The relations between India and Palestine have stood the test of time", he said.

Modi will also meet with Arab CEOs in Dubai before he leaves for Oman from Dubai to conclude the visit to the region.

Trump in December broke with decades of U.S. policy and recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a move which India voted against in the United Nations.

Modi told Abbas that "support for the Palestinian cause has been one of the mainstays of our foreign policy" and that he hopes a Palestinian state will be established through peaceful means. In honor of Modi's visit, the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building in Dubai, displayed the Indian flag on its massive LED light display.

The light show will coincide with prime minister Modi's second state visit to the UAE.

Abbas said "we count on India's role, as a world power with significant weight and status to contribute to achieving just and aspired peace in our region, due to its impact on world security and stability".

Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, she said the relationship between the two countries has developed from a commercial one to a strategic partnership in critical areas.

PM Modi will reach Abu Dhabi on Saturday evening and where he will be given a ceremonial reception before meeting the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Presidential palace.

Elaborating on India's plans to increase manufacture of defence equipment, export material and components, she said there was scope for defence co-operation via investment from the UAE.
