Police officer shot dead, two deputies wounded serving warrant in Georgia

A Georgia mayor says a police officer who was killed in a shooting that wounded two sheriff's deputies had a young child and a baby on the way.

But while trying to serve the warrant, an altercation broke out, according to the sheriff, and all three officers were shot.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation late Friday identified the wounded deputies as Michael D. Corley and Ralph Sidwell "Sid" Callaway.

According to officials, one Locust Grove PD officer and two Henry County deputies were shot in a neighborhood just off of LG Griffin Road in Locust Grove, near St. Augustine Parkway.

Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer announced the death at an afternoon news conference.

Police blocked off the subdivision and were not letting those who don't live there enter. Nearby Locust Grove Elementary School was put on lockdown.
