Bon-Ton has 260 stores in the USA, including furniture galleries and clearance centers, in addition to department stores.

Regional department store chain Bon-Ton has announced the 42 locations that it will be closing next, following years of declining sales.

Younkers, one of the Fox River Mall's anchor department stores, will close in 10 to 12 weeks. This comes as the retailer released plans to close 47 locations nationwide during the early part of 2018.

The Bon-Ton in Camillus will remain open at this time.

The Younkers stores in Mason City and Austin have survived the latest round of national closures. JC Penney was replaced by Dunhams Sports. In the summer of 2016, the former owners of the mall CBL & Associates surrendered the operation to its lender, Rialto Capital Management.

The Massena, NY Bon-Ton store closing was announced previously.

The women said they believe closing doesn't bode well for the mall. "It still offers foods and services people need".

"They had said earlier previous year that it was due to close in June and that a Shop Rite was going to move in and it was still opened so we thought maybe it would stay", said Snell.

Rosenfeld said that ultimately, though, what happens to the Younkers space won't be Mid-America's decision.

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. operates 260 stores, which includes nine furniture galleries and four clearance centers, in 24 states under the Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers nameplates.

Wausau city officials called the move disappointing, but not surprising, and said efforts to re-position the mall ultimately lie with its owners and management.
