Alongside Student Council President Sarah Kenny, Dave was an active member in organizing the University March 14 against gun violence and in solidarity with the victims of the February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

I can see the passion in so many young people just by their participation in the walkout.
"It's not a static process; this is a dynamic process", Anderson said, with school and public safety personnel working to adapt to new circumstances, approaches and new technology. It's reported police will prevent traffic and people from traveling on the public access road fronting the school.
Stop Handgun Violence was founded in 1994 and was the leading supporter of the Massachusetts Gun Control Act of 1998. The Rachel's Challenge nonprofit was formed after Rachel Joy Scott was killed in the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1990.
The date of the event was kind of eerie (3-14) as three plus 14 equals 17, which was the number of people killed in the latest mass shooing at a public education building.
"It's a complicated matter and needs a lot more research before you support this", said Adams.
While lawmakers passed the age and waiting-period restrictions, putting such measures in the Constitution would make them more permanent -- and harder to change.

The school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School rocked the nation. Several administrators, including Superintendent Rob Hess, watched the students in silence during the event. The legislators in attendance expressed their support for school safety and encouraged the students to continue speaking out on key issues, but not all of them would commit to supporting the legislation introduced by Cambridge Democratic Rep. Marjorie Decker. According to a New York Times article in January, school shootings took place in a "high school in small-town Kentucky...a school cafeteria outside Dallas and a charter school parking lot in New Orleans".
"They were all great people and all of them were lovely in their own way and now they're gone", Bounds said.
While Petty's reasoning, like many others, seems relatively noble, why shouldn't people "walkout"?
"I really think it makes a difference when you hear kids express how unhappy and how fearful and how exhausted they are with the situation", Garaña said.
"This is the type of history I can not wait to tell my kids", said Sarah Vojta, a senior, "that I was there, that we made that change". My heart hurts to think about the families. I am proud to have been one of them. To decrease that possibility, she wants schools to put in place more metal detectors for entrances.
"It was their choice to participate", Drew said of those who chose to head outside at 10 a.m. But as the city struggles with a recent series of bombings, prompting schools and other facilities to change various routines out of an abundance of caution, it's unclear if the current plans for the march will hold.
The tool kit lays out a digital library of resources on topics like how a bill becomes a law, how to contact elected officials, how to pass ballot measures and how to organize school assemblies and community events. They could also sign a pledge to show kindness or make new friends, she said.
On March 14, almost 1 million teenagers across the country stood up and walked out of school as part of a nationwide protest calling upon Congress to take action against gun violence. "We support the voice of our students".
Since the walkout, in part, was held to bring about a conversation about gun control, we are going to do just that.
