Gesicki became the second tight end selected in the draft when the Dolphins took him Friday with the 10th pick in the second round, the 42nd overall selection.

Gesicki joins a Dolphins roster that is relatively low on weapons for Ryan Tannehill.

And the depth chart looks to be wide open after the Dolphins cut veteran Julius Thomas.

"We talk about run blocking tight ends, and Durham Smythe from Notre Dame focused on that in his career", said NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock. Mike proved himself to be one of the all time greats at Penn State under Coach James Franklin. He is an athletic freak and showed that with his performance at the NFL Combine.

"The 6'6" Gesicki caught 57 passes for 563 yards and 9 touchdowns in his senior season. He finished his high school football career with a Southern-record 103 receptions and 1,817 yards. He's not much of a blocker (50.5 run-block grade in 2017 was career-high), but he had the highest contested-catch rate in the nation among tight ends (75.0 percent) and his long frame allows him to make spectacular catches.
