Sweden is strong contributor to our 'Make in India' program: PM Modi

The Joint Action plan is aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields including energy, clean technology and Trade.

PM Modi also said that Sweden has been a strong contributor to "Make in India" program.

"Defence cooperation is the biggest pillar in our relations". In the defence sector, Sweden has been India's partner for a long time.

Recalling Stockholm's contribution in Make in India project, the prime minister said,"Sweden has been a strong contributor to our "Make in India" program". In his address, PM Modi said that the stature of India has risen at the global stage, further giving examples of the country's entry into the export control regimes of Wassenaar Arrangement and the Australia Group and the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). "It is a proud moment for all Indians, to see huge co-operation from Sweden".

Sikh organisations such as Dal Khalsa, Sikhs for Justice and Sikh Federation (UK) have said that they are expecting turnout from across the UK but several other Sikh groups working for Khalistan have also invited their supporters to protest against Modi. "When it comes to trade and investment, we will speak to CEOs and take a decision", PM Modi added. If we look at Swedish investments, they are increasing over the last few years. He listed a number of sustainable "modern solutions" his country had to offer, including smart cities, green tech and innovation.

In a special gesture, both the Prime Ministers travelled in same vehicle from the airport to the hotel.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi called on Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf before heading to talks with Lofven.

Innovation was front and centre in the bilateral summit today, with a separate discussion focused entirely on this area, and the outcome being a joint declaration on a Sweden-India Innovation Partnership for a Sustainable Future, which built upon the joint statement between the two Prime Ministers in Mumbai in 2016.
