Amanda Nunes successfully defended her women's bantamweight title after a bloody stoppage in the main event at UFC 224. Souza got the fight to the ground in the first round and dominated the grappling exchange, getting to mount multiple times.

Ultimately, Nunes said that she had a job to do to defend her belt and that's exactly what she accomplished on Saturday night.

Nunes said winning against her friend Pennington was the hardest challenge she had to face in her career. However, her pleas were ignored, and coaches put her back to the octagon into the fifth round.

The American, who was fighting for the first time since defeating Miesha Tate in late 2016, told her corner she was done after round four but was sent back out for more punishment. The majority believed Pennington's corner committed a significant mistake that led to an onslaught of unnecessary damage, and Nunes agreed with that assessment post-fight. "I really think she needs to surround herself with people who want the best for her so she can really evolve for her next fights".

At the end of the third round, Pennington had noticeable swelling surrounding her left eye.

Yet this much remains the same: Green won't be showing much respect for the Rockets' anti-Warriors strategy anytime soon. Playing at home was deemed too easy for them, so they often took 'er easy in those games, and sometimes they were burned.

"Unfortunately, tonight (her corner man) failed".

Raquel Pennington was on the receiving end of a pretty brutal beating at the hands of bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes at UFC 224 that had fans split down the middle after a particularly divisive moment. It might be a bad injury for her to go to the hospital.

Now that she's cleared out Pennington, it feels like she's cleaned out the shallow bantamweight division.

Pennington's reluctance to be the aggressor continued to pave the way for Nunes to attack her however she pleased, peppering her with more leg kicks before taking her down shortly afterwards. And I would have done the same thing because sometimes when you're exhausted and you don't think you have enough left, your coach's job is to pull the most out of you. "C'mon girl. I know it hurts, I know".

"When it comes to finish this bout, something I've dreamed about for so long, I have to do it. We're going to have a beer and celebrate our friendship". The UFC has expressed interest in a potential super fight between Nunes and 145-pound champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino later this year.
