Jared Kushner now has permanent security clearance

In February, Kushner was stripped of his temporary, high-level security clearance after White House chief of staff John Kelly imposed new rules created to crack down on West Wing staff with long-pending background investigations, sources told ABC News at the time.

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly had ordered changes to the clearance system after a top aide - Rob Porter - worked for months without full clearance because of allegations he abused both his former wives. But the delay became a distraction and, with the special counsel investigating some of Mr. Kushner's meetings with Russian officials, it left open the question of whether investigators had uncovered evidence that made him a security threat.

"With respect to the news about his permanent security clearance, as we stated before, his application was properly submitted, reviewed by career officials, and went through the normal process", Lowell said.

"Having completed all of these processes, he's looking forward to continuing to do the work the president has asked him to do", said Abbe D Lowell, attorney of Kushner, in a statement.

The attorney, Abbe Lowell, made the revelation to The New York Times, which also reported that Kushner had been granted a permanent security clearance after more than a year of vetting by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Kushner had to resubmit his security clearance form past year because of foreign contacts that had been omitted.

Kushner is also believed to be the "very senior" member of the Trump transition team who directed Michael Flynn to lobby Russian Federation against a United Nations Security Council resolution concerning Israel in late 2016. Like the president, Kushner was previously a wealthy real estate magnate and headed up his family's company.

Hamas Scaled Back Gaza Protests Due to Egyptian Pressure
Israeli troops shot dead dozens of Palestinian protesters on the Gaza border on Monday when the high-profile opening of the U.S. Israel's military said those comments proved the protests were not peaceful.

His financial situation has since improved markedly.

"I will let General Kelly make that decision", Trump told reporters.

Mark Zaid, a national security lawyer, said people who lose their interim security clearances are often able to get them restored after a fuller investigation of the issues that caused concern for security officers.

"For that job, he would normally need top secret and SCI", Zaid said. But The Washington Post reported that he had secured a permanent clearance.

Whether the restoration of Kushner's clearance is somehow related to his cooperation with Mueller is not immediately clear.

When Trump took office past year, Kushner was granted interim clearance which allowed him to handle classified information while his background check was ongoing.

Among his undisclosed contacts was his presence at a Trump Tower meeting in 2016 between Donald Trump Jr., the president's eldest son, and a Kremlin-connected lawyer who supposedly had dirt on Hillary Clinton.
