Kansas City, Kansas, police confirmed on their Facebook page that Deputy Theresa King, 44, died just after midnight following the shooting on Friday. "It's sort of our own loss, that I hurt for the families of these other two individuals that were shot because I know how they were feeling", said Ginger Ewonus, Kelsey's mother.
The inmate was also shot and underwent surgery Friday.
In separate news releases from the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, deputy Theresa King passed away around 2 am Saturday.
Deputy Patrick Rohrer died at a hospital on the same day. The proceeds from the memorial fund will be donated to the family through the Wyandotte County Sherriff's Office. Robert King, who lives nearby, questioned why police didn't use nonlethal force. She had three children, including a young one.
Zeigler also said the deputies were taking the inmate from the courthouse back to jail, not the other way around, as police initially reported.
The officials declined to go into more specifics about how the shooting happened, though Bailiff said the deputies had "followed proper procedure".
A candlelight vigil will be held for both deputies at the city hall on Sunday, June 17 at 8:00p.m.

FOX4 Kansas City identified the suspect as Antoine Fielder, 22, who had been tried twice for the murder of a 22-year-old that both ended in hung juries.
The shooting happened Friday as an unidentified inmate was being moved.

Bailiff said the deputies were following protocol when the deadly altercation occurred.
Fielder was a free man until this February when he was charged with a different murder in Kansas City, Missouri from 2017.
The Olathe Police Department, Raymore Police Department in Missouri and the Jackson County Sheriff's Officer in Missouri tweeted similar heartfelt messages. Kelli Bailiff said at a news conference. They didn't give any details Saturday as to his condition. Police Officer Zac Blair says authorities are reviewing surveillance video.
