Rapper XXXTentacion shot dead in Florida

Initially, the Broward County Fire Department told the website that XXXTentacion was rushed to a hospital, but wouldn't elaborate on his current condition.

Kanye West tweeted a tribute on Monday, saying he was grateful to the young rapper "for existing". Just after 5:30 p.m., the authorities said that he had been pronounced dead.

The 20-year-old, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, talked about dying in an undated Instagram Live video. News that the deadly shooting took place at around 4 P.M.in Deerfield Beach.

Prominent figures from the music world and beyond are expressing shock and sadness at the shooting death of 20-year-old rap breakout XXXTentacion earlier today.

In a subsequent post requesting anyone with information on the situation to come forward anonymously, the Broward Sheriff's Office says Onfroy was "approached by two armed suspects", with at least one firing a gun at Onfroy during a possible robbery.

XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was exiting the shop's parking lot in his luxury BMW electric auto when he was shot.

His debut album "17" was released in August, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. He is now awaiting trail for a list of criminal charges, which includes domestic battery strangulation, false imprisonment, and aggravated battery of his pregnant girlfriend.

The rapper, who was accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend, was slapped with 15 new felony charges in December, including witness tampering and witness harassment.

Last month Spotify backpedaled on a planned anti-hate policy to remove XXXTentacion's music from its playlists, along with R. Kelly.

"If I'm going to die or ever be a sacrifice, I want to make sure that my life made at least five million kids happy or they found some sort of answers or resolve in my life regardless of the negative around my name, regardless of the bad things people say to me", the rapper added.
