Five dead in Southern California plane crash

The plane was going to the nearby John Wayne Airport when it crashed around 12.30 pm (1 am Indian time on Monday) near the South Coast Plaza shopping mall, authorities said.

A victim of Sunday's plane crash in Santa Ana, California, took one final photo hours before the plane's nosedive led to the deaths of herself and five other passengers.

Another was 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan, who saw Hakimi as a mentor in the real estate industry, Ghanadan's brother said.

"Our entire Pacific Union family is mourning the loss of our colleagues, family and friends", CEO Mark McLaughlin said in a statement.

The Orange County Fire Department said the plane's engine cut out before it could make it to the airport.

The aircraft had departed from northern California earlier in the day and departed Orange County after a stop.

Category III Aviation Corp. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The plane was registered to a San Francisco company and had flown from the East bay suburb of Concord, according to FAA records.

Photos from the scene showed the plane upright but on its belly and the vehicle damaged.

The aircraft went down in in Santa Ana on Sunday afternoon, with authorities saying there were no survivors on board.

The plane was about one mile from its destination, John Wayne Airport, before the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will each investigate.
