Five people, including three infants, were stabbed early Friday at an in-home day care center in NY by an employee who then tried to kill herself, police said.

Chief Holmes said the home was not known to police, apart from one call in 2011 of "children screaming".

The injured infants ranged from three days to one-month old, police say one woman has suffered multiple stab wounds.

The woman is also accused of stabbing one female co-worker eight times, police told WPIX. All are in critical but stable condition.

All of those wounded in the attack, which happened before 4 a.m., were hospitalized but expected to survive.

Don't forget to get your flu shot
These include life-threatening allergic reactions to a previous dose of the flu vaccine or an ingredient in the vaccine. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop and to provide protection against the flu.

Both the butcher knife and the meat cleaver were recovered by police.

The 52-year-old suspect, who has not been named by police, was revived after responding New York Police Department (NYPD) applied a tourniquet on her arm.

A spokeswoman for the state's Office of Children and Family Services said the home is not an OCFS-licensed or regulated childcare program. A spokesperson for the police said she had slashed her wrists.

Holmes said nine children and several parents were at the private home when the attack occurred.

Police have not filed charges pending the investigation. So far, paperwork has been found showing it is likely a day care facility, officials said. It's not clear if any of the stabbed babies were the male victim's child.
