Google to shut down Inbox app in March 2019

Google launched Inbox by Gmail nearly four years ago with innovative features not found in Gmail. For users, Inbox was a lighter version of Gmail, an email app focusing on what matter most while still offering some nifty features that weren't available to Gmail users.

Google is killing Inbox by Gmail. Recently, Google updated its Gmail app with some new features. But, Now Google announces that Inbox will be shut down by the end of 2019. The cross-platform app was created to clean up the mess of your Gmail inbox by categorizing mail by type such as social media notifications, promotional emails, spam, and your regular correspondence.

But now Google is calling time on the app, likely because it hasn't really kept the app updated over the years and a lot of the features Inbox introduced have made their way over to Gmail.

Google revealed that it will terminate Google Inbox in March 2019. So they are focusing more on Gmail. Five months later, though, and Google looks to have changed its mind. The company confirmed the news through a blog post on September 12 titled "Inbox is signing off. Find your favourite features in the new Gmail". It's a service many of us use every single day. What started out as an invite-only service, turned into a pretty popular email app.
