Spotify's general counsel and Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs, Horacio Gutierrez, called the act a "huge step", adding "The MMA will benefit the music community and create a more transparent and streamlined approach to music licensing and payment for artists".

That's the reaction delivered Thursday morning by National Music Publishers' Association President/CEO David Israelite in reaction to the White House signing by President Trump of the Hatch-Goodlatte Music Modernization Act.

Also included in the legislation is The Compensating Legacy Artists for their Songs, Service & Important Contributions Act (CLASSICS), which ensures artists will receive royalties for songs recorded before 1972. It will ensure songwriters and artists are granted royalties on songs recorded before 1972.
