Jurgen Klopp: James Milner 'is like wine'

Speaking 24 hours before Saturday's riveting 1-1 draw with Liverpool, Unai Emery was clear about what he wanted to see from his Arsenal team against Jurgen Klopp's Premier League title hopefuls.

"Despite a 14-game unbeaten run in all competitions, the Gunners remain four points off Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table and will end the weekend outside the top four courtesy of North London rivals" Tottenham's 3-2 win at Wolves.

Ultimately Alexandre Lacazette's excellent second-half strike cancelled out Milner's opener, and speaking to LiverpoolFC.com after the game, Saturday's captain bemoaned a lack of ruthlessness. However, replays later showed that while Mane was in an offside position on the initial pass that led to Roberto Firmino's shot off the post, Mane wasn't involved in the sequence.

"I think Millie should buy all of the newspapers and read this", he said.

"When I was a player, the offside rule was different".

"It was a brilliant attack. But we made a few more mistakes tonight than the ref".

I'm glad we got three points for him. "He took us in as his extended family and that's exactly what we did with him". The 22-year-old was booked after taking off his shirt in celebration , revealing the message "For Kun Vichai".

'Millie [Milner] was the one who saw it for us. We needed to be more solid - that's something to learn from.

Win they didn't, but Arsenal did at least display the "big mentality" asked of them by Emery - and for which the Gunners manager must take credit for instilling. "It was pretty much flawless for most of the day", Murphy said on Match of the Day.

After shaky goalkeeping from Leno allowed Milner to put the visitors ahead, substitute Alex Iwobi helped Arsenal fight back as he set up Lacazette's goal with a clever through-ball. In midfield Lucas Torreira had to wait until late September for his first league start.

Good managers and coaches make their players better, inspiring them to perform with greater intensity, and the greatest compliment for Emery is that he is transforming several members of his squad, many of whom had been written off as no-hopers during the final days of Wenger. Already his mixture of tough tackling and passing ability in possession has made him a fans' favourite.

"The thing was that we were not compact enough in the first half and we were too high on the wings and that's it, we could play", Klopp explained, as per the Independent.

And Emery's decision to sacrifice Aubameyang rather than Lacazette with his substitutions was vindicated when the French global kept his composure to brilliantly curl into the far corner after being forced wide by Alisson.
