At 4:54 p.m., Ocala police said they had apprehended a 55-year-old suspect. Ballard said Johnson threatened Cronin, saying at one point he was "coming strapped" for her. Police say Johnson fled the scene on a bicycle and then shot himself.
The man then shot the woman before getting away.
Ballard said the two individuals had been arguing all day and that he and the victim had gone to Walmart to purchase items for their apartment.
The victim and the gunman dated for about nine months but were now not a couple, according to Scotty Ballard.
The Ocala Fire Department said on Facebook that emergency responders returned to the shooting scene to treat three people.
Police said he was later found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
