According to the site, downdetector.com, much of the eastern United States is reporting problems with the site, but issues are reported worldwide.

Several users in the USA and Europe on Tuesday reported that Facebook Messenger was not working for them.

Facebook said in an online statement on Twitter, after users complained: "We know some people are having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps". We are investigating the issue and working on a resolution.

It was the second instance in the past two weeks in which technical issues appeared to affect access to Facebook.

The group's executive director, Austin Evers, said in a statement: "The President's family is not above the law". He said she belonged in jail for her actions.

Both #FacebookDown and #InstagramDown were trending earlier Tuesday morning (Nov. 20) and it seems the trend is still persisting. A spokesperson told the outlet, "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps".

While the site seemed to come back slowly as the morning went on, posts on social media (those that weren't Facebook and Instagram, of course), showed that when their social media goes down, the internet just can not handle it.

Many users from India and as far as Canada posted screenshots saying "something went wrong" to inform that they could not access the social media platform.
