Fitzgerald said he was not yet aware of any plans for a community gathering to welcome Jayme home.

"My legs started to shake".

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Mr Patterson had no criminal history in the state of Wisconsin.

Jayme smiled for a photo after reuniting with her family.

Authorities discovered Jayme was missing after her parents - James, 56, and Denise Closs, 46 - were found fatally shot inside a home on the outskirts of Barron, Wisconsin.

It's believed that Jayme was held captive at that same remote woodland cabin after her abduction in October from her family home in Barron.

Police arrived to find the door kicked in, Jayme missing and her parents dead.

They gave no details on how she escaped except to say Patterson was not home at the time.

"I can tell you that the subject planned his actions and took many proactive steps to hide his identity from law enforcement and the general public", Fitzgerald said. "Believe me, so are we". Police are still investigating and say 'she is doing as well as circumstances allow'.

Kasinskas called 911 to report the girl had been found after another neighbor out walking her dog encountered Jayme and brought her to Kasinskas' house.

After being cleared from the hospital, Jayme was taken to the Douglas County Facility where she was interviewed by authorities.

Patterson, who was unemployed, remained largely an enigma Saturday.

Naiberg, Jayme's grandfather, said he spent a few hours with her on Friday.

Smart said she would get defensive when people asked her why she didn't run or scream when her captors sometimes traveled with her out in the open.

Jayme Closs, 13, was missing after her parents were found dead in their home in Barron, Wisconsin, on October 15, 2018.

He also went to "great efforts" to avoid leaving any traces of himself at the crime scene, Fitzgerald said - including shaving his head so he wouldn't leave hair behind.

Multiple guns were recovered during the search warrant at the residence; including one shotgun that Sheriff Fitzgerald confirmed is consistent with the type of shotgun used at the Closs residence on the night that Jayme's parents were killed.

Almost three years ago, Patterson worked for one day at the same meat products facility where Jayme's parents worked - the Jennie-O Turkey Store plant in Barron.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, citing neighbours, reported that Patterson had been raised in Gordon.

Investigators have said Patterson's goal was to kidnap Jayme, but he appears to have no connection to the family. I feel like it's sort of a miracle that she's still alive. She did not recall seeing him around town or on her street.

"I don't recall anything that would have explained this, by any means".

Jayme had been missing for almost three months when, on Thursday, she approached a stranger near the small, isolated town of Gordon and pleaded for help.

"I'm just happy that she's safe". I don't know where I am!

"I've been a social worker my whole life", Jeanne told USA Today. Kasinskas told the Star Tribune that she didn't even realize he was her neighbor.

"We're running on Jayme's time right now", he said. "God has answered those prayers".

She was rescued nine months later with the help of two witnesses who recognized her abductors from an America's Most Wanted episode. "(Jayme) don't know him from Adam.
