Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram are down for many

About an hour after users noted the outage, Facebook responded on Twitter.

A spokesperson for the social media giant said: "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps".

According to DownDetector.com, tens of thousands of people from many different countries reported the social media giant was not working for them.

While Facebook and Instagram have been down, many have turned to Twitter to make jokes about the outage.

Facebook has been suffering from outages across the world since around 12pm ET Wednesday.

We tested multiple accounts at The Verge, and found that Messenger couldn't load at all on desktop, although the mobile app was working.

Users worldwide are reporting that they are unable to access both Facebook and Instagram.

Some are reporting problems with the app loading slowly, feeds not refreshing and some can't login at all.

It is still yet unclear why two of biggest social media networks have just gone down out of the blue.

Right now, news outlets aren't sure how you're getting to this article because Facebook drives so much traffic.
