The Philadelphia 76ers seized control in a 51-point third quarter, set a team record for points in a quarter and a playoff game, and evened their first-round series at one game apiece with a 145-123 victory over the visiting Brooklyn Nets on Monday night.
Ben Simmons is okay.
But team-mate Simmons risked the wrath of Philadelphia's support by lashing fans who booed.
And he did it with Iverson rooting on the Sixers from courtside.
Leading by just one point at the half after dropping Saturday's Game 1 at home to fall behind in the series, the Sixers outscored the Nets 51-23 in the third quarter with dazzling precision on both ends.
"I was just trying to be me", Simmons said.
The league's official injury report again has three Sixers players listed, and Embiid's status remains the headliner. They have never overcome an 0-2 deficit in a playoff series. Even still, its gritty style helped it to a big win. And while Embiid and Simmons sharing a laugh about the situation was more about Embiid showing a little humility for a change, put yourself in the Nets' shoes. If they can just get some stops in Game 3 they should be right back on the upset trail.
He had 23 points in Game 1 but fell back 13 in Game 2. That's the type of energy I love.
Iverson and former Sixers teammate Dikembe Mutombo attended the game and tossed T-shirts into the crowd.
Pep Guardiola: Liverpool, Manchester City both deserve to win the Premier League
We are going to be 11 against 11 on the pitch and of course we will forget everything and try and win everything, and fight. The Spaniard won it with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, while also earning a winners' medal as a Barca player in 1992.
UPDATE: Joel Embiid WILL be available. The talented young National Basketball Association player was chuckling with his teammate Ben Simmons after the game when attempting to apologize for it. He played in 24 minutes during the Game 1 and played in 21 minutes for the second matchup. We know he has a knee injury, which is why he was doubtful for Game 1. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rondae Hollis-Jefferson in the game earlier to challenge Boban Marjanovic defensively. "It's coming. It's going to be how we react".
This time, the Sixers didn't need the 36 points they received from Jimmy Butler in the first game.
Simmons started the game aggressively and scored seven of the 76ers' first 14 points.
Simmons apparently does not see eye-to-eye with 76ers head coach Brett Brown. "There's zero doubt he's our crown jewel".
Embiid received a flagrant-1 foul for clocking Allen in the face with his left elbow while spinning in his direction. How's this for dominance - Philadelphia scored 145 points with just nine made 3-pointers.
This series against the Brooklyn Nets may be entering a similar phase.
The Nets were unable to take their first 2-0 playoff lead since sweeping the Knicks in the 2004 first round, largely because they had few answers for Embiid.
Brooklyn's star point guard D'Angelo Russell was ice-cold to start the game, but ended up posting a team-high 26 points against Philadelphia.
