Now, Universal has officially confirmed that the former 16-time WWE/World Heavyweight Champion has joined the cast of Fast & Furious 9, which is set to be released in theatres in May 2020. That's not hard to imagine in the slightest given John Cena's reputation and some of his previous roles, but that'll nonetheless make him a good fit for the next Fast and Furious movie. Since then, it has spawned eight sequels, spin-off Hobbs & Shaw (produced and directed by The Rock), several video games and even a Broadway production. Given that pretty much every character in the Fast and Furious franchise is a badass of some description though, that doesn't exactly narrow things down. He's charismatic, built like a brick wall, and the camera kind of digs him - making him a ideal fit to fill the Rock-sized hole in Fast & Furious 9. The film takes place two years after Fate of the Furious and stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
Precisely who he's going to be playing in the film is as yet under wraps, but it's being reported that he'll portray a "badass".
