According to TMZ, who broke the report, the R&B musician was booked Thursday (July 11) on crimes in two different states: Chicago and NY.

In a statement Friday, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx said the federal charges were the result of collaboration between her office and federal prosecutors.

R&B singer R. Kelly has been charged with racketeering and sex-related crimes against women and girls in sweeping NY federal indictment.

The indictment in NY says Kelly and his managers, bodyguards and other assistants picked out women and girls at concerts and other venues and arranged for them to travel to see the singer.

During a press conference after the hearing, Kelly's lawyer, Steve Greenberg, told reporters, "We pled not guilty to all of the charges because he's not guilty".

In 2008, Kelly was found not guilty of child pornography charges that stemmed from a tape allegedly showing Kelly having sex with a minor, which had been obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

He was arrested after a 13-count federal indictment was handed down earlier Thursday in federal court for the Northern District of IL. "Slapping, choking and isolating her in rooms for days at a time with no access to food" were the words Brooklyn prosecutors used to describe R. Kelly's alleged misconduct.
